About The Event
The renewable energy push is gathering momentum, with both federal and state governments expressing their support for projects that will see prime agricultural land and areas of pristine rainforest wilderness destroyed.
Most recently, the state government committed over $200 million for wind farm projects in Central Queensland and $1 billion for the Pioneer-Burdekin Pumped Hydro scheme in the Eungella and Pioneer Valley region.
The hypocrisy of the push to hit renewables targets, while destroying remnant vegetation, untouched rainforest wilderness home to platypus colonies, and crucial agricultural land is deeply concerning. A carefully, thought-out and calculated plan for locations which are best suited to house renewable energy projects is required, not hastily made decisions to hit policy targets.
Regional Queensland’s voice needs to be heard by those who are making these decisions, which is why Michelle Landry will be holding a Renewables Rally for Regional Queensland in the Speakers’ Corner at Queensland Parliament House on Tuesday, 22 August from 12.00pm.
The group will assemble at the Speakers’ Corner, which is the thoroughfare from George Street to QUT’s Gardens Point Campus, at 11.30am for a 12pm start.
Please join us on this day to make our voices heard to the State Parliament.
